It gets boring tying the same thing over and over. So, I decided that it was time I try to tie myself a Tenkara fly. I've been following a few people through Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter that post a few things about Tenkara. The person that most inspired me to tie up a Tenkara style fly was a fellow Blogger Mr. Troutrageous!
Size 14 hook, a feather - I didn't look up what type of feather to use, so, I used a small grizzly hackle, hackle clip, and some thread.
I've been curious to try a few of these to see what they do on the water. Looks good.

DeleteLook great. I will probably try a touch of tenkara again this spring. Crappie were fun on the long rod.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to try. I don't know anyone in the area with a Tenkara rod that I could demo on the water.
DeleteI don't think there are any "real" rules on what feathers to use. I've tied them with what ever I have available.
ReplyDeleteI'm not one for rules, either, but sometimes I like to try to do things the traditional way, at least once.
DeleteWill be awaiting some feedback on your Bluegill experiences. I have not fished Tenkara nor do I own any Tenkara gear. That being said, I think the flies would fish well in most any manner.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the bluegill will be all over this fly, just like they are with every other fly at my local ponds. They're easy to please.
